Today on Christ’s birthday, I’m reminded to enjoy the little things, rejoice in the blessings I’ve been given, and celebrate my Saviors birth. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon his shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace,” (KJV, Isaiah 9:6-7). They honored Christ’s birth by giving high-valued gifts; each gift’s meaning was significant and served a purpose. “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him; and when they had opened their treasures they presented unto him gifts; gold frankincense and myrrh,” (KJV, Matthew 2:11). The wise men gave the most precious possessions they had to God. This act of giving they did not out of obligation, but out of love.
As we open presents today, we should remember where these gifts first came from and to who they belong to. We should follow the wise men’s example and give not out of obligation, but out of love. Today shouldn’t be about what gifts are under the tree or how much money we spent on each other. It should be a time to reflect Christs life and celebrate his birth! The greatest gift of all was the sacrifice he made on the cross. “Greater love hath no man than this that he should lie down his life for his friends.” (KJV, John 15:13) We will never out give God. “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life.” (KJV, John 3:16)
Happy birthday Jesus! Thank you for loving me JUST AS I AM and giving your life so I can live eternally in your Kingdom. I love you.
